Year-Round Events for Groups and Individuals

ABOUT

The croquet lawn in Stern Grove at 19th Avenue and Wawona Street is home to the San Francisco Croquet Club. The SFCC was organized to support the development and promotion of the various forms of croquet regionally and nationally. Low annual dues entitle members to the use of club equipment and access to free classes. We play all the major sports versions of the game: Golf Croquet, Association Rules Croquet and USCA (American) Rules Croquet. Visitors are encoraged and, indeed, we have welcomed players from all over the world.

sfcc cable car image The San Francisco Croquet Club was founded in 1981 and was the first U.S. Croquet Association club in Northern California. It quickly became a widely recognized model for the development of public and membership programs and event formats. As with the Oakland Croquet Club, it's "sister" club across the Bay, the SFCC is a member of the United States Croquet Association. Both clubs support the USCA and its mission to popularize the sport of croquet both nationally and internationally.

sfcc event imageThe club produces popular three-hour lawn parties at the Stern Grove croquet lawn for up to 56 people. The park setting is perfect for a team building outing or a private celebration. The game played is Golf Croquet doubles - fast-paced, interactive, and learnable in minutes! Teams work together to plot winning tactics and strategy but the pace is easy, the tone is social and the accent is on "serious" fun!

  • Events can be scheduled for any time of year during daylight hours, weather permitting.
  • The club provides a complete program - all the equipment setups and instruction.
  • The croquet lawn is close to public transportation. There is also free parking in the neighborhood with easy drop off for buses or rideshares.
  • The club can also design a croquet program for an offsite venue of your own choosing.

The per person prices range from $20.00 to $35.00 (corporate event), with a minimum fee of $200.00 to $350.00, respectively.

Enjoy a day of casual play or try our popular mini-elimination tournament format. The tournament format not only gets people on the lawn and playing, but it also produces an ultimate first place team. However, it also keeps "losing teams" participating and playing against new opponents for as long as they wish. Whichever format is used, the play is very casual and social.

The dress code is "comfortable" but flat shoes are required.

"What struck me on my last visit is the fact that you can throw a random group of strangers together here and EVERYONE - without exception - has a total blast."

Eve P.

you may end-up having an awesome off-site!"

The croquet lawn is on the north side of Stern Grove in the 19th Avenue and Wawona, northeast corner of the park (see map below). Traveling south on 19th Avenue, just turn right at Wawona.

Traveling north is a bit trickier since left turns aren't permitted for north bound traffic along 19th Avenue. But, just proceed one or two blocks north of Wawona, make a right turn, then turn back to cross 19th, turning left on 20th. 20th Avenure leads right to a park entrance.

There is usually plenty of free parking in the neighborhood, along 20th or Wawona.

The park entrance at Wawona and 20th Ave. is the perfect drop-off spot for shuttle-buses or ride-shares.

The Muni #28 runs a North/South route along 19th Ave. There is a stop right at the corner of Wawona. The Muni #28 also connects with the Daly City BART Station.

The MUNI M Train stops at West Portal/Sloat/St Francis Circle. A short walk west down Sloat, then either up 19th or through the park brings you to the lawn area.
